I just tried using QRY/400 on the file and they show correctly, as below...

So, I just learned that the interactive SQL session attributes actually
control the format and separator used to display the values, NOT the format
defined in the PF.

How are you viewing the data in the physical file? For me (on V5R2), DSPPFM
and RUNQRY both show what I expect, which is YYYY-MM-DD for *ISO and
MM/DD/YY for *MDY. Further, the *ISO date field is length 10 while the *MDY
field is length 8.
