I think adding an alias has no effect on the level check,
but an easy test is to add an alias to one field, compile
to qtemp, then you have your answer

Subject: will dds alias keyword cause level checks?
I want to start adding alias names with nice, long, clearly
understandable names. We are dabbling in DDL, but most of our stuff is
DDS. But we are moving to SQL and exporting files as spreadsheets, so nice
clear column names is a good thing.
I must add the alias in DDS because system I navigator only allows me to
change the short name, which I do NOT want to change since that is what RPG
uses.
I am afraid I will get level checks on my rpg programs if I use chgpf
pointing to the new DDS with aliases.
Can anyone confirm or deny level checks before I jump in?
Thanks.
