Well that prevents the program from blowing up. It's a win-win. The users don't have errors and you don't have calls to the help desk. =)

Some time ago I encountered a series of programs who's *PSSR subroutine included the following:
C *PSSR BEGSR
C SETON LR
C RETURN
C ENDSR
