I believe this solves having a file that really does not exist but has the
same description as another file from having an OVRDBF for the compiler.

Subject: EXTFILE/EXTDESC: what problem does it solve
I have read the descriptions of the EXTFILE and EXTDESC keywords in the RPG
Reference Manual, I am clear about "how" the keywords are used.
What problem(s) were these keywords intended to solve? I'm not clear what
the advantages are (or use-cases, I suppose), compared with traditional
linkage to an externally described file within the compiler.
Thanks
