Ok, I've made some minor progress but This is proving frustrating.
I can get this to work

scpattern = '[0-9][0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9]-[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]'

but these does not

scpattern = '[0-9][0-9][0-9]\W[0-9][0-9]\W[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]'
scpattern = '\d{2,3}\W\d{2,3}\W\d{3,4}';
scpattern = 'd{03}-\d{2}-\d{4}';

ideally I would like to take the pattern that I have working, but allow
the dash to be anything other can an alpha or numeric.
