*ZERO vs *ZEROS

All,
I have the following code:
FldA 1A
FldB 7S 0

FldA = 'Y'
FldB = 0012345
/Free
If FldA = 'Y'
and FldB > *ZERO
.
.
.
.
EndIf

When I run this code using the *ZERO, the If fails and control transfers to
the EndIf;
When I change the code to use *ZEROS, it works fine.

Running 6.1.1.

Why does it not work with *ZERO?
