Sorry I didn't explain that well.

I was trying to reference the SQL Table 'alternative field name' in the RPG
module and because of that I got a compile error as the alternative field
name is not found in the record format. This is at V5R4.

When I reference the field name (short name) and not the alternative field
name I do not get an error as it is found in the record format.

Thanks

Also,

You shouldn't be getting any compile errors...I use tables with long
names in RPG IV all the time..

The system automatically defines (or you can explicitly define) a
short name for the column...prior to the ALIAS support added in 7.1,
the short name would be used by RPG.

Can you post an example showing your problem?

In an SQL Table we have descriptive alternative field names that from
what I
can see from prior posts you can't refer to them in an RPG module. (Not
using embedded SQL)

In the compile listing for the externally defined file I notice it
doesn't
bring them in for the record format so I get the fields not defined
compile
error.

Is this just how things are and not something that is even on the radar
to
change?
