I've tried your first version and it works for me. But the simplest way would be:

d myuser s 10a inz('DBMSSQL')
d mypwd s 10a inz('denkste')

exec sql connect to DBMSSQL
user :myuser
using :mypwd;


... you should have in mind, that the password is limited to 10 characters and that the user is send in uppercase by DB2/400
