I just added another reply to a separate discussion. In that reply is described a means to handle the above scenario whereby both an existing index on the decimal data can be utilized and whether the decimal data does not properly form a valid YYYYMMDD date value is no more relevant than when constructing the value of "yesterday" as a literal.
