The user space is the right answer. I can update it when the underlying table changes, and the service program will see the new data (I think). That throws some interesting quirks into the mix, but I'll deal with that later. I'll probably define the array in the programs as some reasonable maximum and then use the first portion of the user space to identify the actual number of entries and perform a %subarr on the based in the program when I do my lookup.
