Jerry,

I seem to recall that some later releases relaxed some of the restrictions. That was one of them.

I am trying to use a program on a V5R1 system that I wrote and used for
years on a V5R4 system. However, during the compile I get an error:

RNF0327 30 2 The first parameter for %DEC or %DECH is not valid.

The line in error is:

work150 = %dec(value:15:0);

value is defined as 15a.

work150 is defined as 15p 0 decimals.

Like I said, I used %dec( ) in V5R4 to convert character expressions to
numeric values; was this ability something added after 5.1?

I guess I could use the "old" MOVE VALUE WORK150 method since all I'm trying
to accomplish is convert an alphameric field, which is all numeric
characters, to a numeric field, anyway. But any other (more "modern")
suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks.

I don't worry about what people think. I'm convinced most of them never do.
