That is the beauty of cancel handler. It can handle what %shtdn() can't
(END with OPTION(*IMMED)). Unfortunately, this time it failed to handle
what it suppose to be able to handle :).

I agree with Eric - you should probably change the backup program to use
ENDJOB OPTION(*CNTRLD) with DELAY(xx), followed by a DLYJOB(xx) with a
long
enough interval to allow the never-ending program to cycle through its
logic.

At either the top or the bottom of the processing logic in the program
check
%SHTDN or use the SHTDN opcode to check for whether the subsystem, system,
or endjob was requested, then perform and orderly shutdown of the
program...

the server ip is wrong or sever was downed at that time. hhhmm.
