My stance is more prozaic: IBM have built a tool and I want to see if it is of any benefit to me/my company. I will make the decision after I have evaluated it, not before.
I agree wholeheartedly that the path you define is the path we should be on. I also agree that almost anything can be achieved using RPG and service programs as long as we understand what we are doing.
However, there are a lot of places that don't / can't move along the path you describe yet, and they must be supported in any way IBM can - with minimal impact to the customer (intellectually/emotionally/financially).
