If you are open to a commercial solution, we have a couple options. Our 
RPG2SQL Integrator has a CL command that exports a PF or LF to a 
spreadsheet. It formats columns according to the data type on the i - no 
leading zeroes lost in zip codes, for example. The command is built on 
the Excel functionality that is extensive, if you need that in the 
future, as well as the remote database functionality.

We also have our DataExport product, which can convert files or SELECT 
output to either spreadsheets or SYLK format - the latter does the 
column formatting by data type, as described above.
