Thanks all, my mistake. I wasn't seeing the parameter returned to the CLP from the RPG because the RPG was using an intermediate work variable and wasn't copying this variable to the parameter.

i am not sure why not. RPG just receives a pointer to the
data. You can simply define a type as two fields and receive
that it should be fine.
