What do you mean exactly, Birgitta? Surely you must always have at least
one main module? Is that what you mean by PEP module?
PEP means Program Entry Point, the module/procedure that will be called

I think you mean CRTPGM not CRTBNDPGM.
I meant CRTBNDRPG with Activation group and Binding directory (which are
both specified within the H-Specs)

You have only one bnddir for all programs?
I have a single binding directory for my application.
In this binding directory all service programs are listed (no modules).
A binding directory is only used at compile time and not at run time.
All our programs consist only of a few (may be 100 or 200 statements)
everything else is handled within exported procedures (located in service
programs).
In this way it doesn't matter if creating a program takes 0,5 or 5 seconds.

Using a lot of service programs (with activation group *CALLER) may increase
activation time, but until now we did not have any problems with this
behavior, because most service program run in their own activation group.

Hello Birgitta,

if a module is bound directly to a program (either with or
without nomain
keyword) and you have to change your module (error /
enhancements) you have to rebind all programs where the
module is bound to.

That is, if you want all the programs to use the changed procedure(s) :-)!

In our programs only the PEP module is bound directly (i.e.
all programs are created with CRTBNDRPG and a binding
directory where all service programs are registered).

What do you mean exactly, Birgitta? Surely you must always have at least one
main module? Is that what you mean by PEP module?
I think you mean CRTPGM not CRTBNDPGM.
You have only one bnddir for all programs? I once suggested this and my boss
though I was having a laugh. I did try testing this a long time ago and I
thought that that made binding very long. Do you not have this problem?
