Hi
I'm working on some SQL equivalents of native IO in RPG. In digging
around for SETLL solutions - they all seem to assume single-column key,
BTW - useless for generic solutions - I found a thread from 2007. The
item that interested me came from Paul Raulerson (
http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l/200710/msg00376.html ) where he
says that "scrollable cursors allow you to position either by sequence
or by reference"
I know what "by sequence" means - FETCH xxx, xxx being one of the
several options available.
I don't know what "by reference" means - there is nothing on the FETCH
that lets you specify a location based on a character value, for instance.
So if Paul is around, can you help me out here?
There are several kinds of issues in this area of generalizing IO using
SQL. Some might not be solvable - an IBM developer suggested there are
some really intractable issues here. And I'm not sure that "by
reference" would really help for the general case, not just "position
to" situations.
Thx and Merry Christmas (auto-convert greeting to your favorite flavor,
please!)
