Pete,
This kind of thing can happen very easily in BPCS. For some reason they
do not handle unexpected data very well. When amounts and quantities get
very high strange things can happen and many errors like this will pop up.
Don't be afraid to contact the BPCS list for any questions you have.
There are lots of great people with a ton of domain knowledge that will
help you figure things out quickly. Which program was blowing up??

FYI, if the production version of the program was compiled with enough

debug information you can always strdbg on the program and, without
running the program, find the line number in the listing view. If the
program doesn't have enough debug information that's when you can compile
the module/program into QTEMP (or wherever) and look at the generated
listing to find the line number.

As an additional follow up.

I was able to compile the program and was just about to fire off a debug

session when the Controller came in an asked about a report that wasn't
running each night. I told him that I was trying to run it down and it
appeared that it was a calculation that resulted in a value too large for
the report field to hold. The "light bulb" went off in his head and he
came back with a printout of warehouse item that was $18 billion. (a
little too big...)

So, it was a data item (as I suspected) and I am pretty sure, now that I

have compiled the source and looked at the numbering, I know where the
error can occur.
