I'm happy to say that the Virtual Loaner Program for partners of IBM has
the installation CD image available for putting on a 6.1 or 7.1 VLP
reservation. If you are a business partner (PartnerWorld), it's all
there to use.
At 6.1 there are some PTFs to be applied, as well. You'll have to do
that yourself - and you'll need to apply any cumes and other group PTFs
yourself, in order to get current. But you can use IBM's bandwidth and
The CD image is to be found under the 7.1 directory but I think it's
fine to use on 6.1 - someone please correct me there, if necessary.
Thanks to Kent Milligan for adding extra weight to my VLP service
request to install 5733-OAR.
I believe Aaron Bartell wrote recently about becoming a partner without
going through TOO many hoops!
I posted a little bit ago that I'm working on a simple handler for
remote database access using out RPG2SQL product - I have a good
functional one that handles only OPEN/READ/CLOSE at this time - it does
require our product in addition to Open Access - RPG, of course. We are
considering various ideas as to distribution to our customers or
prospects. Anyone curious about it, feel free to contact me - I'm happy
to show it off little. And I can talk some about my experience in
writing the handler in a vendor-agnostic fashion. And I recommend Jon's
article on it recently - helped me a lot. Maybe I'll write something up,
as well. We'll see!
