Standards., like fashions, change over the years for many reasons - personnel in authority, bought-in software packages, outside contractors or other-site developers with their own standards, changes in platform / releases / methodology, weak controls and reviews

My own naming standards are simple - constants start with c, program variables start with z, procedure names with uppecase letter of the alphabet followed with a numeral.

I'm not a big fan of using prefixes on fields & constants to note their use. I make constants all caps. IMO, that should be sufficient to indicate that it's a constant.

Yes, I know, fields pulled in from files defined in DDS are all caps, but I try to avoid referencing them as all caps.

Once, when I was programming in C++, I was expected to use Hungarian Notation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_notation) which drove me crazy.

It would be fun to compare conventions.

For normal fields I try to give them very meaningful names using mixed case (usually starting with a lower case character).

The only time I prefix something is a procedure in a specific service program. For instance: All exported procedures in the IMUTIL service program are prefixed "Util_".
