Only because Old English evolved from Old Low German.
And there are very few languages still in use that didn't evolve from
some other language.
That goes for programming languages, too. (To move a little closer to
on-topic, /FREE is largely a debased form of PL/I, which is why I feel
that IBM's time grafting it onto RPG could have been better spent
turning the OPM PL/I PRPQ into a full ANSI PL/I compiler for ILE. Now
why do I suddenly have a craving for alphabet soup?)
