Protect you from what exactly?
You passed a 9,0 packed decimal into a procedure expecting a 9,2
packed decimal. Because CONST was specified the compiler converted
(copied to temporary) the 9,0 into a 9,2 and passed (the address of)
the converted value.
Your code received MCH1210 so which receiver was to small? Perhaps
trying to stuff 9 significant digits (9,0) into a field capable of
holding only 7 (9,2) is asking a bit much?
