Larry,

I have already done that. The subfile appears, but does not seem to be active. That means that the first message displays, but I can't scroll through the messages when there is more than one message and I putting the cursor on the message and pressing Help/F1 doesn't display the second level text.

Any other ideas? Thanks.

Is it possible to have a fully active (scrollable, cursor sensitive
help) message subfile on line 24, outside an active window?

Yes, put *NOMSGLIN on the window definition and the window will no longer have its own message line. It uses the message line at the bottom of the display.

However...

Make sure you also use *NORSTCSR or the F1 function key wont be active if you move the cursor outside the window, and you wont be able to press F1 over the message. :-)
