So, the question at this point is, does MI support a similar function?
James said this is actually an MI program, but he replicated the issue
in RPG by instructing SETLL to record 1. In his example, as I
understand it, his LF omits RRN 1 due to S/O criteria, and after the "1
setll mylogical", the cursor is positioned incorrectly.

I was pretty sure that *START worked fine for non-keyed files, since
EVERY file (regardless of keys) has a *START and *END.

*START can be used for both a keyed or non-keyed file, and for both
externally-described and program-described. A *START SETLL doesn't
specify any search argument, it simply positions the cursor at the
beginning of the file.
