Yeah, my mistake...  I thought template DS was available in V5R4.  This really confuses me sometimes, which version release introduced new features...  Perhaps we need a reference summary of features by release.

Subject: RE: INZ a DS

Sorry, I posted a bit hastily.

I had described my based DS and put INZ values on the subfiles.

On the DS actually used, (likeds basedDS) I used INZ ( *LIKEDS ).

This won't compile as i cannot use INZ on the DS based on a pointer.

David,

If by initialise you mean CLEAR the subfields, you can use
the CLEAR keyword, as in CLEAR *ALL myDS.

Hi,

If I have myDS   DS  LIKEDS( templateDS )

TemplateDS       DS     Based(template)

do I have to initialise the subfields of myDS manually or is there
another way?

Thanks.
