The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
Yes the syntax is confusing. Having to remember the OVRDBF doesn't help.
And having to create a dummy file (to get your program to compile) if your
record layout changes or your key changes or... is annoying.
Ok, the RPG may look traditional to someone. I'll grant you that. However
I'd wager that anyone who had to learn all the tricks to OPNQRYF from
scratch could learn the same technique in embedded SQL from scratch
easier, regardless of how long in the tooth they are.
But how would we find two long in the tooth RPG programmers who didn't
know either to find out? And a scientific sample would require more (to
avoid the argument that you or I got stuck with the idiot).
