Though the %alloc built-in is limited to 16MB you can use the _C_TS_malloc
API to allocate just a tad under 2GB and the _C_TS_malloc64 API if you need
more than 2GB. RPG based variables can then be used to access the full
variable contents (admittedly at roughly 16MB per operation). This is a very
reasonable workaround (to my thinking anyway).

There are many areas in the i where 16MB limitations imposed by the
operating system have been removed. Languages, such as RPG, may or may
not take full advantage of these expanded capabilities based on
the perceived needs of their users.

With the new version of Mq the maximum message size is 100 mb.

However - even with the highly appreciated extension of maximum variable
size in RPG - the maximum size in RPGLE is 16mb. Even the %ALLOC statement
signals 16 meg as the maximum size it can allocate to a pointer.

Is it likely that IBM will extend the options beyond the 16mb limit in a
coming release?

Is there any work-around available?
