RE: SQL variables not created by precompiler

Yuck! You have my sympathy. Honestly, if they've gone to the bother of
prototypes and procedures why not do things properly and build service
programs from them? We've had ILE for more than a decade. How long
will it take for these idiots to "get with the program"?--to coin an
Americanism.

Yes, I know just what you mean, Simon. It is a pain. Actually, they'd like
to get to there, and it's one of my missions to get them there. Right now,
we're trying to work through the issues of a Certification Team that doesn't
know the Turnover product (but who is solely responsible for setup thereof),
and a Hosting Team (frankly, IBM) who know absolutely nothing about the
platform. OK, they might know how to spell i, but I'll bet they capitalize
it.

So it will take time and hand-holding. But hey, we got the System/3 out
last week and we'll concentrate on the S/34 during the rest of the year.
(Kidding on both) Which brings me to:
