Granted. Your choice. For my code, rather than saying, "This will work as
long as..." I would prefer to say, "This will work." But your choice.

Noone answered the second part, are there several levels of EOF? Ie one
for each file and one for the last file read?

I think this has been answered, but just in case:

Unqualified %EOF refers to the most recent READ or WRITE (not just any I/O)
statement. Once set on, it may be set back off.
