Now to implement a client history file, that would mean a hell of a lot of
programs to update.

Why? Just Write a after update trigger program.
As soon as the client becomes inactive, i.e. the state gets set, write the
record into the history file and delete the record from the original file.
We handle all our history files in this way.

Hi David

If you can't use history files, as Birgitta suggested, start
using a QAQQINI file with the IGNORE_DERIVED_INDEX value set
to *YES. Once you get to v6r1, this is already the default.
But this will eliminate the problem with select/omit files.

Hi Vern Birgitta, I'm looking for the message from Birgitta where I learned
of this problem. I thought that that would stop SQL from finding the index
at all.

That reminds me in fact we DO have one or two history files that are direct
copies of daily transaction files. --
