A user space can expand automatically to the maximum size as stated. When first created, a user space does not have that capability set, but I believe the IBM APIs change this. When using user spaces for your own efforts, you might need to change the user space attribute so that it will auto-extend.

Oh for the days when the most memory you could use was 640K in DOS!! Don't we love hard limits? Who would ever use more than that? Unthinkable!!

As far as I know, the User Space is 16MB, but if is necessary, it gets
expanded automatically... is it true?

FWIW i would use the Open List of Spooled Files (QGYOLSPL) vs. the List Spooled Files (QUSLSPL) API. The main reason is that List Spooled Files

(QUSLSPL)is limited to the 16mb due to using a user space. the Open
List of Spooled Files (QGYOLSPL) API does *not* have that limitation.

I'd suggest one of two api's, either
List Spooled Files (QUSLSPL)

PL.htm

Open List of Spooled Files (QGYOLSPL)

spl.htm

Do NOT blow over "API Concepts".

I'd send you a sample but we use so many includes here that it's not really portable. Besides, doing it from scratch will drill in a hard lesson. Besides, it sounds like now you have the time...

The data queue option is cool, but there's a lot of restrictions as to what get's written on the data queue, like if the spool file is on hold,

etc.

And, how the blazes are you going to put a spool file number in a
control file???? I can see using spool file name, job name, even user defined data, but spool file number?
