If you're throwing away almost everything that makes RPG RPG, wouldn't you be better off using another language? ANY other language? No, free-format RPG is perhaps the most powerful language available today for writing business logic. The fact that you can intersperse complex SQL with powerful ISAM access makes RPG the equivalent of a REALLY GOOD macro assembler for the database. Powerful high-level constructs to do high-level or set-based processes, and really granular low-level access to handle the things that SQL doesn't do so well.
