To obtain the missing PCDATA I perform an extra XML-INTO, whose path resolves right down to the specific element, into a variable whose array dimension is the same as that of the initial XML-INTO. In this case, XML-INTO populates the array with the PCDATA only of the element.

Such an extra XML-INTO would be required for each missing PCDATA element.


The alternative Peter is to use XML-SAX to "fill in the gaps". This has the advantage of allowing multiple values to be retrieved in one pass - although I thought that I had also used your approach to do that as well but ...
