Here's one benefit. I have written a FTP exit point program. If I got
permission to open source that then others might find potential security
breaches to it and report it to me. For example, one person reported that
a common security breach is this:
- If I restrict someone to only using directory
for upload then am I sure that I am stopping them from doing something
Another user may expand the program to allow ldap lookups instead of a
simple table to whom may sign on.
But I hear you. I have a few bills piling up at home that I wouldn't mind
a little side money...
