First of all, I'm not a decision-maker, and not even an influencer.

I'm just the "external contractor" who is currently co-developing and co-supporting the RPGLE application that _might_ be replaced by EGL.

Depending on the outcome of the demo my project leader will see later this month, the EGL could go two ways: either continue running on the iSeries with an RPG backend for those functions not supported by EGL itself, or it may be moved to a Windows platform.

By the way, your reply sounds to me as "If your company may be moving away from the iSeries and RPG, don't ask this (or any) question on this forum!"...

I was just looking for a guide to allow me to add EGL to my toolbox which today mainly consists of RPG.

If this isn't the correct forum, then which is?

IMHO, this is not the correct forum for this question.

This forum, in my mind,, is to support RPG and ISERIES developers on an
on-going basis.
Assuming that your POC stands for Proof of Concept, I would make a
contribution to that document, if not as a decision-maker, then as an
informed and affected influencer.
http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/july07/developer/16318p1.aspx is a
useful
starting point.

Subject: EGL for RPG programmers ?

Hi group,

The manufacturer of our GUI is preparing a POC for replacing our
current
RPG applications with EGL, in view of possibly moving from the
iSeries to
Windows (unfortunately the Philips philosophy is "SAP unless..." and
"Windows unless...").

I'm a consultant in the "iSeries cell" to support the "legacy"
applications which are being phased out.

So if I want to stay on the wagon, I'll need to look into EGL.

Is there any "EGL for RPGLE programmers" book or course available,
similar
to the "Java for RPG programmers" one?

Even an "EGL for dummies" would be welcome ;-)

I already downloaded & installed the RBD trial, and had a look at the
tutorials, but these seem to be geared more at people who don't know
the
eclipse IDE. I've been using WDSCi since version 5, so I think I can
say
that I know how to work in it.

Thanks in advance for any pointers here (although our vendor told us
that
pointers are not supported in EGL ;-) )
