And all those indicators - yikes - gotta convert that code to IV - pepito - use CVTRPGSRC immediately - then you can use things like the %eof() builtin function to test that kind of thing - get rid of those indicators!! Please!!!

It is difficult to know the problem, in any case - original poster showed so little code - is it in a subroutine, is *INLR left off at program end? No way to answer this one, that I can see on a Friday morn on vacation.

No - you don't. Besides - RPGLE is the source type for RPG IV - so they are the same thing anyway.

If you think this code is RPG IV then you are very sadly mistaken. The code shown is RPG III (RPG/400 if you like) - a language that was out- of-date 12+ years ago.
