You clearly dont have an answer. I'm not a beginner here. I know that
you cannot use host variables in STRSQL.

If you notice we are in the RPG group. I'm using this in SQLRPGLE to
create a QTEMP table. I've found in the reference manual that host
variables are not allowed. BUT WHY?

Are you saying that you are trying to execute this statement within the
interactive SQL interpreter (STRSQL) ?
If not, please explain further.

You can't use host variables within STRSQL, since it has no way of
prompting
you for the host variable values, but you could put the SQL into a source

file, replace the colons with ampersands, and compile it to a QM Query
with
CRTQMQRY and run it with STRQMQRY to test it...
