The technique of using OVRDBF to redirect a printer file to a DB file is what I do sometimes, instead of CPYSPLF.

And I often redirect something like OUTPUT (for FTP) to QPRINT with OVRPRTF - but could just as easily do OVRDBF, for parsing the results of an FTP session.

Hi Dave,

You can use an override to go from almost any type of file to almost any other type of file. For example, I frequently do the opposite of what you describe, where the program's output is PRINTER, and I want a DISK file, so I'll use OVRDBF to override to a disk file. (Usually because I want to read the "report" into a computer program and do something to it.)

So... you can override one type of file into another. Is that what you're asking?

Thanks for the answer. It already works, Scott, I still don't know how.
I would have expected it needed to be called "printer" on the F spec.
