From what I understand, C can be faster mostly due to superior
optimization by compilers. I.e., two programs, one in C and one in
RPG to do the same tasks, the C program can be significantly better
optimized to perform better.
But that's essentially hearsay...
If true, it suggests some questions about how optimization is done
in light of a common intermediate W-code (or whatever). Exactly
_what_ is optimized and what does the optimization?
