I was taught the same thing. In today's world there is no use (to me) for
a GOTO, but occasionally I have used LEAVE to end a loop prematurely. I've
never used ITER as there are plenty of ways to make sure the data is
sorted and qualified beforehand that ITER (to me) has been pointless.

Hmm. Sounds like you were taught by a fanatical disciple of Wirth.

There is nothing inherently bad about ITER or LEAVE, provided they are
used in situations (e.g., brute-force table look-up) in which premature
exit of a loop is the norm, and completion of the loop is the exception.
