The niftiest thing I did was write a command CVTXLS to dump any file into an Excel spreadsheet (Thank you Scott, your service program made it much easier).
This brought up a problem with AS/400 JVM that I haven't been able to overcome. The first file I attempted to dump was a 119 column, 225,000 rows. It ran for 36 hours and only processed 40,000 records. Used too much memory.
Towards the end the garbage cleanup function was being called every time a Java call was executed and was taking longer and longer. I finally had to cancel the program. The program ran alright when I limited the file to 15,000 records and started another spreadsheet.
