It just so happens that I had just written a clunky routine to convert a character field to numeric when I saw these posts.
The value is LETOTL = ' 1,492.05'
So, I tried this instead:
Eval #Amount = %Dec(LETOTL:11:2)
Where #Amount is defined
D #Amount S 11 2
However, I got this error message:
A character representation of a numeric value is in error.

Is my problem with the comma?

Since V5R3 is scheduled for destruction in a few months you may want to
download that.
