I get error messages that I must use a Result Data Structure. I declared
one, and it seems ok on the EXFMT, but trying to use subfile WRITEs is
another matter. If there is no Result DS, you get the error that one is
required. If you put a Result DS, then you get an error that you cannot use
a Result DS.

Or am I just missing something?

Possibly. You haven't supplied your code so I can't be sure but ...

For an EXFMT the LikeRec or ExtName must specify the *ALL parameter.

For a WRITE it must be specified with *OUTPUT

Without this it will not compile.

In some case this seems silly because the DS is identical in both the *INPUT (defualt), *OUTPUT and *ALL cases but right now the compiler seems pretty fussy.
