Subject: RE: MCH1201 (Rcvr too small) on an _if_ statement???
what value did Pet_Name_Ind have in it on error
Unknown. No dump was taken. But given that it's a 2B0, is there any
value that would be "invalid"? We can't think of one.
Actually there are lots of invalid values for a 2B0 varible.
2b0 is treated as 4b0 (two bytes), and 4b0 is _NOT_ the same as 5i0 (two bytes).
5i0 has a range, -32768 to 32767
4b0 has a range, -9999 to 9999.
From the manual:
"If the length of the field is from one to four digits, the compiler assumes a binary field length of
2 bytes."
"the highest decimal value that can be assigned to a 2-byte binary field is 9999"
Should have said this before, Pet_name_ind is the null indicator (select
into :hostvar:nullind) from a sql statement.
I wouldn't expect to see garbage in it.
While the manual does say to use 2b0, does 5i0 work?
It's been a while since I needed the null indicator, but I don't recall needed the binary data type.
My understanding is that anyplace Binary is used, Integer will work.
