Zero would not be returned, NULL would be if there is not a matching record
in ROLLUP.

That is the way LEFT JOIN (ie. LEFT OUTER JOIN) works.

From the manual:

"LEFT JOIN or LEFT OUTER JOIN The result of T1 LEFT OUTER JOIN T2 consists
of their paired rows and,
for each unpaired row of T1, the concatenation of that row with the null row
of T2. All columns
derived from T2 allow null values."

If you are seeing a ZERO, that means there is a record in ROLLUP with the
actual value of ZERO.

So do you need the replacement value when
--There's no record in ROLLUP, NULL
--There is a record, but he value is ZERO
--Both of the above

The field is numeric, so zero will be retutned. Would this function still

Is the value in column 2 actually zero? Given that you are doing LEFT
OUTER
JOIN, it seems likely
that the value is actually NULL.

In which case, the COALESCE function is your friend...

SELECT cust, coalesce(rollupcust,cust)
FROM arfile left join rollup on cust = rollkey
where cust between 29600 and 29699

My question is, is it possible to have the sql statement return the

value

from column 1 (0001003) in column 2 when the value is zero.

So the results would look like this:

0001003 0001003 - would return value of column 1 if

result

of
column 2 is zero

0001004 0001002
