1. I know that it's possible to have recursive procedure calls in ILE RPG; I've done it myself, but is it possible to set up an ILE RPG program to call itself at the program level?

You can emulate this via actgrp(*new) I do not know how deep you can go this way: my test program goes 64 levels without crashing. This code ought to run on any ILE system from V3R1 if you move the activation group keywords from the H specification to the compile command.

h dftactgrp(*no) actgrp(*new)
h* dbgview(*list)

c *entry plist
c parm number 15 5

c add 1 number
c if number > 65
c seton lr
c return
c endif

c number dsply

c call 'RECURSIVE'
c parm number

call recursive 0
