The call to the service program is not the same as one to an OPM
program, no, there you are right. I am not sure about the part where you
suggest one could delete the program. There we need the answer of
somebody who knows how the actual call or invocation is handled. I could
envision that somehow a copy is made from the binary to memory, which
would enable to ensure that a stable version of the dependant/depending
programs is available (compare this to the way a program is placed in a
separate library when it is replaced by a new version after a compile).
But conceptually you could see the late binding of the service program
as being done at activation time (ok, so not during program start
perhaps, but it has to be done at the time of invocation, you will have
to agree here).

There is a lot of information regarding ILE and the ILE model in the
Wizards' guide to RPG/who knew you could do this in RPG... I forgot the
exact title, but somebody on the list might want to give the correct
title and id.

the binding is done at program start and will not be modified during
the running of the program (as true dynamic calls are bound, or rather
resolved, at every usage).

If the binding is done at program start, I should be able to delete

the

service program and my program will continue to run, right?





I think what I really need is the dummies' guide to ILE!
