1 - This is not an RPG question. It's more of a midrange-l question.
2 - Are you trying to do what we would easily do with SQL with:
create view qtemp.adamv1 as
select *
from qtemp.adam
where datshp=0
and ((invno between 'I000000' and 'I999999') or
(invno between 'N000000' and 'N999999'))
In that case then DDS is much like old indicators in RPG: No parenthesis.
You end up having to do stuff like:
A S DATSHP CMP(EQ 0)
A INVNO RANGE('I000000' 'I999999')
A S DATSHP CMP(EQ 0)
A INVNO RANGE('N000000' 'N999999')
Blank = "And".
A new 'S'elect or 'O'mit implies "OR".
