After Barbara finally managed to get the basics of EXTBININT and so on
through my head, I decided I'd write a short article about it for MC
Press. I outlined the basics of using integers in the database, and how
externally described files and the EXTBININT keyword can be used to keep
those integer types intact in your RPG program. I then received a
private email from an ex-IBMer that pointed me to a specific redbook
that showed something very interesting: integers outperform packed decimal.
Well, that in itself isn't so interesting; integers ought to be a little
quicker. The interesting bit is that integers outperform packed
decimals on adds *by a factor of 20*. Yeah, you read that correctly.
Integers are 20 time faster than packed decimals on adds.

Just a little food or thought...
