I did; actually I called it from a command line (and I could see the
garbage) or from a CL and I couldn't see anything, but the RPG %trim
didn't work at all; it looks like the parameter was never trimmed...

If you're calling from a command line, there is an FAQ entry for this.
The solution is to create a command wrapper for your program.

Subject: Long parameter issue
Hi all,
I try to pass a char parameter of 100 to an RPG program. The problem
is, starting position 34 (if the actual data I'm passing is less than
that) is filled out with garbage. When I try to trim the parameter (in
order to use only what I need it), I cannot do it because of that...
I have a feeling the answer is using a varying type field, but I cannot
make it work...
Any ideas?
Thanks.
